S Korea: Viet Nam’s largest handset importer in January

South Korea in January surpassed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to become the largest export market of Viet Nam in the field of mobile phone and component.

According to the latest statistics of the General Department of Customs, Viet Nam’s mobile phone and component exports to South Korea reached some US$230 million in the first month of this year, up 107.7 per cent, or $125.6 million, against last year’s corresponding period.

Meanwhile, the country’s mobile phone exports to the UAE market experienced a significant yearly decrease of 37.4 per cent to $228.5 million.

With shipments to 37 countries and territories in January, mobile phones and components continued to be the largest export item of Viet Nam with turnover of more than $2.32 billion, an increase of 2.6 per cent compared with the same period in 2016.

Besides the two above-mentioned markets, other large importers of Vietnamese mobile phones and component included the US with turnover of $206.8million, Austria ($163.3 million), Italy ($145 million) and Hong Kong ($112.3 million).
