VN-Index hits five-month high

Shares jumped this morning with the benchmark VN-Index hitting a five-month high at 676.8 points, up 1.4 per cent over yesterday's close.

Blue chips pushed the market up.

The three largest stocks in terms of market capitalisation were dairy giant Vinamilk (VNM), insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) and private equity firm Masan Group (MSN). These companies were the biggest gainers, each increasing between 2.5 per cent and 5.1 per cent.

Overall, however, market condition was negative with losers outnumbering gainers by 121-78. Some 111 shares closed flat.

On the other hand, the HNX-Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange closed marginally unchanged at 83.9 points.

A total of 84 million shares worth a combined VND1.8 trillion (US$81 million) were traded on the two markets by the end of the morning.

The afternoon session starts at 1pm.
