Stocks mixed; property, agriculture firms boost VN Index

Vietnamese shares were mixed on the two local exchanges this morning. Property and agricultural firms continued to lift the southern bourse.

The benchmark VN Index on the HCM Stock Exchange rebounded 0.7 per cent from Monday's fall to close at 595.84 points.

Property firms, insurance companies and the agricultural sector helped boost the southern market.

The property sector was lifted by Vingroup JSC (VIC), Becamex Infrastructure Development JSC (IJC) and FLC Group (FLC), which advanced 2.9 per cent, 2.6 per cent and 6.3 per cent, respectively.

Insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) gained 2.7 per cent to lead the insurance sector, with foreign investors buying nearly half of the stock's trading amount.

Two agricultural companies, Hoang Anh Gia Lai JSC (HAG) and its subsidiary HAGL Agricultual JSC (HNG), extended their good form. HAG jumped 5.4 per cent and HNG surged 6.9 per cent.

Meanwhile, the HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange declined 0.1 per cent to end at 80.82 points.

Energy stocks weighed on the northern bourse after US crude West Texas Intermediate (WTI) slipped 2.5 per cent to close Monday's trading at US$42.64 per barrel.

PetroVietnam Coating Corp (PVB), PetroVietnam Mud Drilling Corp (PVC) and PetroVietnam Technical Service Corp (PVS) all witnessed declines.

Both local markets traded nearly 128.3 million shares worth VND1.93 trillion ($85.77 million).
