Local shares end higher

Vietnamese shares ended almost flat this morning, gaining 0.02 per cent to temporarily close at 573.28 points.

The gains made by some large-cap shares this morning provided the foundation for the market's gains.

Banks showed some positive improvements. Vietcombank (VCB) and the BIDV (BID) gained 1.7 per cent and 1.9 per cent, respectively.

Some fertiliser producers such as Petrovietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (DPM) continued to benefit from falling global oil prices. DPM rose by 1.9 per cent.

More than 47 million shares were traded in the early trading session, worth VND866.5 billion (nearly US$40 million).

There were 72 gainers and 116 losers at the end of the early trading session.

The Ha Noi Stock Exchange's HNX Index also gained 0.15 per cent to close at 79.10 points.

Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB) topped the trading with more than 1.4 million of its shares being exchanged, gaining 1.4 per cent to stand at VND7,300 per share.

More than 21 million shares were traded, worth VND242.8 billion ($11 million).
