Toyota Vietnam to recall Corollas and Vios

Recall to begin on September 1 to check passenger-side airbags.

Toyota Motor Vietnam has announced the recall of 148 imported Corollas produced from November 3, 2004 to April 28, 2005 and 3,810 Vios produced in Vietnam from September 13, 2007 to December 31, 2008, to check and replace the airbag inflator module for the front passenger seat.

The recall will start from September 1 at Toyota dealerships nationwide. The recall is covered by the global Recall Campaign of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) of 7,949,000 vehicles in different models.

The subject vehicles are equipped with front passenger air bag inflators that, according to a Defect Information Report submitted by Takata in April 2013, could have been assembled with improperly manufactured propellant wafers. These may cause the inflator to rupture and the front passenger air bag to deploy abnormally in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

TMV will therefore check and replace the airbag inflator module for the front passenger airbag on those vehicles at no cost. The replacement takes just one to two hours and will be carried out at dealership.
