Retailers cut gas prices again

The retail price of a 12kg-canister of cooking gas in HCM City has dropped by VND4,500 (21 US cents) from April 1.

This was announced at a meeting of gas companies in HCM City and the southern localities on March 31.

The gas distributor in the southern region is now selling its 12kg cooking gas canister for VND300,000 to VND305,000 ($14.2-$14.5).

Deputy Head of Saigon Petro Company's Trade Office Do Trung Thanh said the reduction followed the fall in world gas prices by $15 to $465 per tonne.

This is the fourth time the price of cooking gas has been revised this year, including two price hikes.

According to the finance ministry's department of price management, the total gas consumption in 2014 was estimated to be more than 1.3 million tonnes, a year on year increase of 3.07 per cent.

Last year, the price of cooking gas was revised 12 times, including three price hikes.
