Investor to construct power plant on Nam Mone

Nam Mone Hydropower Company has decided to develop a small hydropower plant on the Nam Mone river in Vangvieng district, Vientiane province.

An agreement for the hydropower project management was reached recently between the company and local authority - Vientiane province Department of Planning and Investment.

The department's Director Mr Oudong Phongphaypadith and the company President Ms Pany Thilakoun joined in signing the agreement in Vientiane province.

The company reported to the provincial Department of Energy and Mining last June the result of a feasibility study which had taken over 15 months to complete and found potential in the project.

The future hydropower project will have three generators with 2 megawatts capacity each to be installed for the plant, while the reservoir which will be located 2 km away and will cover an area smaller than 1 hectare.

The company will invest around US$15 million (around 121.6 billion kip) to develop the plant which will be able to produce 28.9 Giga watts of electrical power per year.

The company president said her firm would go straight to developing the project after signing the agreement as they were ready with all the equipment and supporting resources, and would take 24 months for its completion.
