Dongphosy Specific Economic Zone developer signs agreements with international partners

Universal Pacific Limited (UPL) Lao Co. Ltd, the concession owner and developer of the Dongphosy Specific Economic Zone (DSEZ) on April 1 signed agreements with nine of its international partners for the construction, property management, IT infrastructure and medical services development of the DSEZ.

The signing ceremony took place in the DSEZ site showroom in the presence of 70 guests. Among the guests present at the event were the Ambassador of Malaysia to Laos, H.E. Dato' Than Tai Hing, Ambassador of Singapore to Laos H.E. Dominic Goh, representatives of the Indonesian Embassy, Brunei Embassy, Governor of Hadxaifong district, Mr Bountham Phouthavongsa, Chairperson of Dongphosy Specific Executive Economic Board, Mr Soubanh Chounraxa and 11 international partners from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, China and Taiwan. The signing ceremony commenced with an opening speech by DSEZ Chairperson Mr Soubanh Chounraxa to address the attendees, before inviting the Malaysian Ambassador, H.E. Dato' Than Tai Hing to give a speech.

In his speech, H.E. Dato' Than Tai Hing emphasised the amazing growth of the Lao economy, the adoption of the Asean Economic Community and Laos' second Asean chairmanship in 2016, which will accelerate the nation's capabilities in the global trade and commerce platform.

The Ambassador highlighted UPL Lao's commitment to attract a more diverse variety of international brands, construct modern infrastructure and implement enhanced IT platforms, which will contribute to further boost the nation's economic growth.

The ceremony continued with individual signings by each of UPL's nine partners followed by a photo session.

Participating in the signing ceremony was also Bina Puri Thailand Limited, a subsidiary of Bina Puri Holdings Berhad, a Malaysian public listed construction company, in its appointment as the Main Contractor for the development of infrastructure and construction for the 53-hectare DSEZ.

Other partners present during the signing ceremony are renowned international companies including Cienco 610 (Contractor for Road Works and Mechanical Engineering and Plumbing Infrastructure), Langdon & Seah (Quantity Surveyor and Project and Construction Services), Knight Frank International (Global Marketing and Retail Planning), TSM Consultant (Traffic Management Consultant), Novacity Net (Integrated Project Delivery and Building Information Modeling), Brel Software (IT Services and Database Management), Raffles Land (Land Developer), Stemcord Singapore (Medical Consultant), Viva Crystal Global and Thames Stone Group (International Sales Provider).

UPL Lao's Executive Director of Operations Dr Vivone Khotnhotha ended the ceremony with a closing speech, thanking honoured guests, international partners, banking officials and all other attendees for their presence at the ceremony. Dr Vivone added that together with UPL Lao's commitment and its international partners' continued support, there is great confidence that the DSEZ will complete its infrastructure for the entire zone including the finishing of its shophouses and complete infrastructure within 28 months.
