Steel production, imports surge in January

Both domestic steel production and imports surged during the first month of 2015, in anticipation of an increase in demand.

Reports from the Ministry of Industry and Trade showed that the domestic steel industry, in the first month of the year, produced 280,400 tonnes, up 71 per cent year-on-year, while Viet Nam Steel Corporation contributed 120,700 tonnes to the total, a 51 per cent increase.

The country also imported 1.1 million tonnes of steel, up 91 per cent year-on-year.
