Petro Trade launches fuel payments by Plus Card

Petroleum Trading Lao Public Company (Petro Trade) in collaboration with Banque pour le Commerce Exterieur Lao Public (BCEL) has officially launched the ‘Plus Card' which enables customers to use this card for fuel payments at Petrol Trade's stations across the country.

The Plus Card project has been under development since early 2014 and was completed recently and determined to be fully operational and ready for launch.

Beforehand, the parties successfully ran a nationwide trial of electronic payment cards for fuel purchases at Petro Trade stations.

Petro Trade's Chairman and Independent President of the Audit Committee Mr Vang Rattanavong said at the press conference last Thursday that this is an important collaborative effort with BCEL Bank.

This joint project to enable fuel filling systems via electronic means rather than cash will offer a valuable new option for customers who will not have to ensure they always have cash on hand.

Mr Vang said they are now ready to service customers via the electronic payment system and so far a total of 155 companies and another 1,500 individuals have signed up for a Plus Card for fuel payments instead of cash.

The Plus Card gives customers the convenience of simply using an electronic swipe card rather than going through the hassle of making cash payment at Petrol Trade's stations.

This successful realisation of the Plus Card project will provide the basis for further cooperation between the Petro Trade and BCEL in the future.

BCEL General Managing Director Mr Vankham Voravong said this collaboration is a part of BCEL's plan and strategy to modernise business and service systems to respond to the demands of customers with quick and various services.

It is necessary for all business banks to move to modernise their business systems as they prepare to welcome the Asean Economic Community (AEC) in the near future, he added.

Mr Vankham said BECL, the largest bank and leader of modern products and services in Laos, was very pleased to facilitate Petro Trade's customers and business partners with quick and modern payments via the banking system.

BECL will offer banking top-up services for the Plus Card which will enable fuel payments at Petro Trade's filling stations.

Top-up services can be used via counter services at any of the company's branches and service units as well as the BCEL-One, ATMs and IBank systems.

BCEL now has 19 branches and 65 service units nationwide. There are 283 ATMs and over 27,000 people use the BECL-One system which is considered as the largest service network within the country.
