Stocks see modest gains, led by securities firms

 Stocks swung back and forth on the two exchanges this morning, but the rally of securities companies kept them above the neutral level.

Most of the brokerage companies posted gains after their positive business results in 2014 were announced.

Viet Dragon Securities Co (VDS) was the largest gainer with a 4.85 per cent rise, followed by Wall Street Securities Co (WSS) with an increase of 3.92 per cent.

Other stocks such as Saigon Securities Inc (SSI), VNDirect Securities Co (VND) and IB Securities Co rallied between 0.8 and 3.2 per cent.

The benchmark VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange added 0.15 per cent to close at 573.06 points, while the VN30, which tracks the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity, also increased by 0.27 per cent to stand at 610.82 points.

Liquidity remained modest, with just 39 million shares worth VND771 billion (US$36 million) being exchanged by the end of the morning.

FLC Group (FLC) was the leading stock here, with more than four million of its shares being traded, climbing 0.93 per cent to end at VND10,900 per share.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index inched up just 0.03 per cent to finish at 85.02 points, with a low trading value of just VND270 billion ($12.6 million).

Saigon – Ha Noi Securities Co (SHS) was the most active code here, with 3.8 million of its shares being traded, but its price fell 3.64 per cent to end at VND10,600 per share.

FKLF Joint Venture Global Investment Co (KLF) came second, with 2.5 million of its shares being exchanged, rising 0.88 per cent to reach VND11,500 each.

The trading will resume at 1pm.
