Russia-Phu Quoc air route suspended

The international flight route between Russia and Phu Quoc will be suspended until May 2015, according to Huynh Quang Hung - Deputy Chairman of People's Committee of the Phu Quoc island district, southern Kien Giang Province.

In late 2014 and early 2015, the number of Russian tourists to Phu Quoc Island plummeted due to economic difficulties in Russia.

Jointly organised by the Pegas Tourist Company of Turkey and the Anh Duong Tourist Company in HCM City, the direct service from Russia to Phu Quoc Island, starting in mid-February, 2014 ran as often as 2 or 3 times weekly during the high season.

Phu Quoc welcomed 586,000 tourists arrivals in 2014, including over 124,500 foreigners.

As many as 250,000 Russians visited Viet Nam in 2013, a 71 percent increase from 2012, reported the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
