Dollar rates fall, gold slips

The US dollar rates fell in the local commercial banks on January 23.

 

Vietcombank reduced the dollar rate by VND25 over yesterday's rate, with the buying and selling rates being VND21,320 and VND21,385 respectively.

Reducing the dollar exchange rates by VND15, the buying rates in Techcombank and VietinBank were VND21,3100 and VND21,325 respectively, while the selling rates were VND21,380 and VND21,375 respectively.

Reduced by VND10 each, the dollar buying and selling rates in ACB and Eximbank were VND21,310 and VND21,380 respectively.

The buying and selling rates at BIDV were VND21,340 and VND21,400 per dollar respectively, unchanged from its rate yesterday.

Since January 7, SBV has increased the inter-bank exchange rate from VND21,246 to VND21,458 for each US dollar. With an effective exchange rate with one per cent margin, the price ceiling was VND21,673 per dollar.

Meanwhile, the gold prices also slipped slightly in the market.

In Viet Nam, each tael of gold -- equal to 1.205 ounces-- fell by VND30,000($1.4). The state-owned SJC gold was listed at VND35.58 million ($1,670) per tael at the Saigon Jewellery Company.

The international gold price also dropped below $1,300 an ounce, pulling back from five-month highs. On the global gold trading floor Kitco.com, the price of gold was listed at $1,293.8 per ounce or $1,558 per tael. Each tael of gold in Viet Nam was $112 higher than in the world market.
