Bank stocks continue to lead the market

Bank stocks and blue chips continued to soar this morning, pushing the VN-Index up another 14.5 points, or 2.62 per cent, to close at 567.95 points.

On the HCM Stock Exchange, the VN30, which tracks the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity, also climbed 1.59 per cent to end at 616.47 points.

All bank stocks, including Vietcombank (VCB), Military Bank (MBB), Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BID) and Sacombank (STB), as well as Eximbank (EIB) jumped between 1.5 and 6.7 per cent.

Large-cap shares PV Gas (GAS) and Vinamilk (VNM) also rallied by 6.5 per cent and 3.6 per cent respectively.

Liquidity improved, with nearly 60 million shares worth more than VND1 trillion (US$46.7 million) being traded by the end of the morning, up about 25 per cent over yesterday's morning's figures.

FLC Group (FLC) was again the leading stock in terms of volume, with 6.4 million of its shares being traded, rising 0.93 per cent to close at VND10,900 each.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also added 1.2 per cent to finish at 85.11 points, but the trading value remained low at VND395 billion ($18.5 million).

Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB) was the most active code here, with the 5.8 million of its shares being traded, climbing 3.5 per cent to close at VND8,900 per share.
