DAP fertilizer plant inaugurated in Lao Cai

The Lao Cai fertilizer DAP No. 2 Joint stock company inaugurated its diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer plant in the northern province of Lao Cai on December 28.

On the same day, the plant's first batch of DAP fertilizer, making use of the province's available apatite mineral source, was manufactured and met requirements set for commercial fertilizer.

The VND5,000 billion (USD$232.5 million) plant became operational following three years of construction. The plant spreads over an area of 72 hectares in Tang Loong Industrial Zone, Bao Thang district, and employs 600 workers.

The plant has a planned annual production capacity of 330,000 tones, according to officials.

DAP Lao Cai fertilizer is produced under advanced technologies and environmentally friendly technical lines imported from the US, Belgium and Spain.

Vu Huy Hoang, Minister of Industry and Trade, praised the investor, contractors and local authority during the inauguration ceremony, for their efforts in speeding the construction in a safe manner, adding that officials should make further efforts to ensure the quality of the fertilizer and stabilize its output.

Lao Cai's DAP fertilizer, containing 61 per cent protein and phosphorous, helps to stimulate plant growth and increase quality and productivity of farm produce. The fertilizer will be consumed by the domestic market, especially in the northernmost provinces.
