Samsung invests in first thermoelectricity project in Vietnam

The General Department of Energy under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Republic of Korea’s Samsung C&T Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the Vung Ang 3 thermoelectricity plant under the form of build-operate-transfer (BOT).

This is the first thermoelectricity project Samsung has invested in Vietnam so far, said Joon Suk Choi, Deputy General Director of the corporation.

According to the department, the two-turbine plant, designed to have a total capacity of 1,200 MW, will be constructed at Vung Ang Industrial Park in the central province of Ha Tinh. It is planned to be fully operational in July 2022.

The department vows to provide all possible favourable conditions for the investor to carry out the project, said Deputy Director Le Tuan Phong, adding that it is now implementing 18 BOT power plant projects in the country.
