Lao Telecom inks business cooperation deal with CTH

Lao Telecommunications Company Limited is set to become the first telecom company in Laos to offer customers with new online content after it has reached a cooperation agreement with Cable Thai Holding (CTH) International Limited.

An agreement was signed yesterday in Vientiane by Lao Telecom's General Director Mr Thongsay Xanexaya and the Chairman of Cable Thai Holding (CTH) International Limited Mr Wichai Thongtang.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Thongsay remarked on the rapid growth of internet accessibility in Laos, especially for Lao Telecom, which has experienced about 300 percent growth when compared to the previous year.

“That is the reason that our company is determined to have improved services, especially for our online content,” he said.

Mr Thongsay explained that the provision of content services to clients will be matched with the requirements of video viewers via Youtube and online video.

More than 50 percent of the internet users are watching online videos, according to Mr Thongsay.

Under the business agreement, CTH International Limited comes up with the introduction of the multiple options including IPTV mobile systems, internet, cable TV, broadband and other online services.

During the first phase of the cooperation project, Lao Telecom is aiming to improve its new service packages and also to present customers with content services from CTH via mobile phones, including Barclays Premier League programmes and other promotional activities.

Meanwhile in the next phase, CTH International Limited will continue to support Lao Telecom to acquire the rights for Barclays Premier League and other entertainment programmes on mobile phones.

Mr Wichai also said CTH International Limited was here in Laos to cooperate with Lao Telecom, one of the biggest telecommunication companies with around 1.3 million registered numbers nationwide.

“CTH is confident that this cooperation will offer Lao people with the greatest content. They will be able to watch the Barclays Premier League along with 3,300 million people across the world,” he said.

Mr Wichai added that CTH was ready to team up with Lao Telecom to provide the greatest ever services in Laos. Minister of Post, Telecommunications, and Communication Mr Hiem Phommachan and senior personnel from both sides witnessed the event.
