Foreign firms to build wind power plant
The Nhon Hoi Economic Zone's (EZ) management board in the central Binh Dinh province on July 4 granted licences to two foreign investors to build a wind power plant.
EZ deputy director Nguyen Ngoc Toan told Saigon Economic Times Online that the licences were granted to the German firm Vietterracon Company Ltd and the Swiss company Green Venture Invest AG.
Toan said it was the first fully foreign-invested wind power project, worth US$109 million, and the third of its kind in the province. Earlier, the Central Wind Power Joint Stock Company invested in two plants, Phuong Mai 1 and Phuong Mai 3, spread over 283 hectares and with a production capacity of 50MW both.
The new plant, covering 600 hectares in an area west of the Phuong Mai Mountain, will have a combined capacity of 61.1 MW by 2020.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has added the Nhon Hoi wind power plant project to the Power Development Master Plan of Binh Dinh for the 2011 - 2015 and 2020 periods.
According to the provincial authorities, the Nhon Hoi EZ has the best potential for utilising wind power in the country, and has attracted three investments in wind power projects so far.
