SANY heavy industry opens in Laos

SANY, China's biggest manufacturer of construction machinery has eyed lucrative business opportunities in Laos after learning of the local market's potential, thanks to the robust ongoing need for infrastructure improvement in the land-locked country.

To take advantage of the potential, SANY Group, which ranks fifth among the top 50 global construction machinery manufacturers, opened its own distribution office in Laos on Friday. Heavy construction machinery manufactured by the company has been and will be imported and available for the construction business operators in Laos.

In his address at the ceremony on Friday in Vientiane, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Mr Bounmee Maneevong welcomed SANY's presence in Laos.

He said the company has come to Laos at the right time to support the country's ongoing development, especially in infrastructure development.

Recognising the good reputation of SANY's products, the deputy minister said, “I am convinced that the company is very experienced. I believe that their machinery and equipment will be well regarded and prove popular among construction business operators in Laos.”

SANY Group is totally involved in the construction machinery industry with their main products being concrete machinery, excavators, hoists, pile drivers, road construction machinery, port machinery and wind turbines.

Sales Director of SANY Asia-Pacific Region, Mr Roy Yang, said Laos's political stability and growing economy create an ongoing need for infrastructure improvement that represents market potential for construction machinery products.

“The Lao market may be small, but the potential is very big,” he told Vientiane Times.

In his address at the ceremony the Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce to Laos, Sun Lei, said, through an interpreter, that the SANY Group is well-known in China.

He expressed the hope that the company will significantly contribute to Lao socio-economic development.

The Lao government has given priority to developing infrastructure in an effort to turn landlocked Laos into a land-linked nation and transit hub for countries in the region.

Representatives from the Chinese Embassy to Laos, Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and relevant officials of both sides attended Friday's ceremony held at the National Convention Centre.

SANY Group began in 1989 as a small welding materials factory. Now it has grown into a global corporation with five industrial parks in China and four R&D and manufacturing bases in America, Germany, India and Brazil. The British newspaper Financial Times released the 2011 list of the world's 500 most valuable companies (FT Global 500) ranked by market capitalisation. SANY Heavy Industry was on the FT Global 500 list, with a market cap of US$21.584 billion.

Currently, SANY employs about 40,000 people in more than 150 countries.

In 2007 and 2009, SANY Heavy Industry's self-developed concrete pump trucks gained entry into the Guinness Book of World Records twice as the concrete pump with the longest boom. It demonstrated to the world that China had become a leader in concrete pumping technology.
