Toyota Motor Vietnam says to recall 43,000 cars in Vietnam
Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) will be recalling 43,037 Innova, Fortuner and Hilux automobiles, both locally assembled and imported, to check and replace the spiral cable system free of charge from May 15.
TMV said this would be a nationwide recall. There are 40,241 Innova and 2,531 Fortuner cars assembled by TMV and 265 Hilux pickups imported and distributed by the company here in the domestic market.
This is part of Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp’s global recall of some 3.5 million vehicles manufactured in Japan, North America, Europe, China, Australia, Asia and elsewhere in the world.
The firm will replace the spiral cable of the driver’s airbag that could be malfunctioned when the steering wheel is turned. If this occurs, the circuitry connected to the airbag will be uncovered, the air bag warning lamp will turn on and the driver’s airbag could be deactivated when a crash occurs.
TMV estimated it would take an hour to check and replace the cable of the driver’s airbag for each of the affected units.
The company will inform owners of those vehicles of the technical problem. They can visit www.toyota.com.vn or contact TMV’s sales agents and authorized dealers to check if their cars are subject to the recall.
For the vehicles which are not produced, imported and distributed by TMV, the firm can help their owners contact Toyota Motor Corp to have the problem fixed.
