Blue chip losses weigh on the market

The fall of large-cap stocks continued to weigh on the stock market as both indices tumbled again this morning.

 

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index slipped 0.88 per cent to end at 578.71 points, while the VN30 index, which tracks the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity, dropped by 0.94 per cent to finish at 653.94 points.

Almost 72 million shares worth VND1.21 trillion, or US$57.3 million, were traded by the end of this morning.

Nearly 65 per cent of the codes slumped, including blue chips such as Vinamilk, Bao Viet Holdings, Masan Group and PV Gas.

The Tan Tao Investment Industry Corporation was the most active stock on the southern bourse, trading 7.3 million shares at an unchanged price of VND9,500 per share.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index declined by 1.63 per cent to close at 85.08 points.

The market volume reached nearly 47 million shares, worth over VND483.3 billion, or $22.9 million.

The PetroVietnam Construction Company continued to lead the trading on the northern bourse, with 6.3 million shares changing hands at VND6,400 per share, down 1.54 per cent against yesterday.

The trading will resume at 1pm.
