Investors sign $2b thermal power dea

Investors and builders of the US$2 billion Vinh Tan 1 Thermal Plant signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract in the central province of Binh Thuan on Tuesday.

The 1,200MW plant is being funded by the Chinese Southern Power Grid Company Ltd, the China Power International Holding (CPIH) and the Viet Nam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin).

The construction of the plant is expected to start in October this year and be complete by 2018 when it will supply about 7 billion kWh annually to the national grid. The plant is part of a group of four thermal plants in Tuy Phong District.
