Government congratulates LBC with high class medal award

The government has awarded a 1st Class Development Order to the Lao Brewery Company (LBC) to congratulate the company for its achievements over the past 40 years.

Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong presented the 1st Class Development Order to the company on behalf of the government.

On the same occasion he also presented awards to LBC's business partners, namely Carlsberg Asia Company and Proact International Inc, which received a Friendship Order and Friendship Medal respectively.

Mr Thongsing also presented Issara Orders Class 1, 2 and 3 awards to the managing director and board members of LBC. Meanwhile, the chiefs of departments and staff of the company received Labour Orders Class 1, 2 and 3, labour medals and government certificates of congratulations respectively.

The awards ceremony was held on Tuesday night at Lao-ITECC on the occasion of LBC's 40th anniversary celebrations, which were attended by government officials, media representatives and the company's business partners.

LBC Managing Director, Mr Kissana Vongsay, said the company would continue to support charity activities in various fields as part of its corporate social responsibility obligations.

Over the past 40 years, the company has received many international awards in recognition of its great achievements as a brewery company.

Most recently, the company received an award for excellence from Socrates Oxford of England at an event held in Montreux, France in June.

On July 27 this year, the company received the Perlis Award from WORLDCOB, which is held in Mexico, in recognition of Beerlao's excellence over the past 10 years. Every year, WORLDCOB gives the Perlis Award to companies from 80 countries around the world.

LBC was founded in 1973 as a joint-venture between French investors and Lao businessmen originally under the registered name of Lao Beer and Ice Factory. In 1975, the Lao government took over the foreigners' shares, which was followed by the voluntarily handing over of shares by Lao businessmen to the State.

In 1993, Loxley Public Co., Ltd and Italian-Thai Public Co., Ltd invested in Lao Brewery Co., Ltd, which enabled an increase of both its production capacity and marketing potential.

In 2002, there was a change in the foreign joint venture partners as the new partners involved were the Lao government, Carlsberg Asia Co. Ltd and the TCC International Co. Ltd, according to the company website.

In order to expand the company's productivity, LBC opened its second factory in Champassak province in May 2008. According to the company plans, output will rise from 200 million litres of beer in 2010 to 280 million litres in 2013 and to 400 million litres in 2015.

LBC products now account for a 99 percent share of the domestic beverage market and Beerlao is exported to more than 20 countries around the world.

Since the company was founded in 1973 it has been giving back to the nation in which it was born.

It generously provides financial support to several social development projects on an annual basis, including the Poverty Reduction Fund and the Road Accidents Prevention Project, as well as various education and sporting initiatives and other national activities.
