Vietnam pays $4.26 billion of debt in 11 months

In the January-November period of 2013, the state budget paid VND89.5 trillion of debt ($4.26 billion), equivalent to about 11 percent of the total budget spending.

A report of the General Statistics Office said that the total state budget spending by November 15 was estimated at VND803.1 trillion (over $38.2 billion).

The payment for debt and aids was equivalent to 11 percent of the expenditures, with VND89.5 trillion or over $4.26 billion. Other important spending such as investment and development spending accounted for only 18 percent of the total budget spending.

Making the largest share in the total budget expenditure is spending for economic-social, defense, security, state management activities, Party and mass organizations with VND567.4 trillion or $27 billion. These expenses also include salaries reforms.

While total budget expenditure is equivalent to 82.1 percent of budget estimates, total budget revenue by mid November reached only over 80 percent of the yearly target, with VND657.6 trillion ($31.3 billion).

Data from the statistical agencies showed that budget revenue from domestic sources reached VND432.6 trillion and that from import and export was more than VND123 trillion, both reaching more than 70 percent of the estimates.

Budget deficit from January to November 15 was VND145.5 trillion.

According to a resolution of the National Assembly, which as passed last year, 2013 budget deficit must not exceed 4.8 percent. A recent government report to the National Assembly says that 2013 budget deficit is estimated at 5.3 percent.
