Huaphan imports, exports up

Huaphan province has reported the value of its imports and exports to and from Vietnam has exceeded expectations this fiscal year, while those from last fiscal year were lower than planned.

The provincial Industry and Commerce Department's Import and Export Division reported yesterday import and export value has risen to 271.75 billion kip (US$34.84 million) this fiscal year (October to September).

According to the report, export value stands at US$23.05 million – 109 percent of the target figure – while import values so far have reached US$11.79 million, or 205 percent of the planned amount.

The division had been aiming for a combined import and export value of about 209.97 billion kip (US$26.92 million), including US$5.73 million in imports and US$21.19 million in exports.

However the province only reported a combined import-export value of 207.87 billion kip (US$26.65 million) last fiscal year, the department reported.

That figure included 157.4 billion kip (US$20.18) in exports, covering 98 percent of the annual plan, and 50.46 billion kip (US$6.47 million) in imports – just 70 percent of the target total.

Exports from the province this year included iron ore, charcoal, furniture, and agricultural produce and forestry products.

The export of agricultural produce and forestry products made up 85.03 percent of the total value, while iron ore covered 12.53 percent and 2.42 percent came from furniture.

Division Head, Mr Thoumma Latchaleun, said the main agricultural products exported were maize and paddy rice.

Maize is used for animal feed production and also as a snack while paddy rice is only used as a snack product.

“Maize is the main crop for export, and is planted in all districts in the province,” he said.

Fuel and construction equipment dominated imports due an increase in investment projects.

Projects underway in Huaphan include infrastructure and tourism site development, building state and private facilities and power plant construction.
