ILO's lifting of sanctions boosts int'l trading, investment: Myanmar

International Labor Organization (ILO) 's lifting of all remaining sanctions on Myanmar would help the country to ensure its boosting of international trading, increasing foreign investment in it and creating more job opportunities for its citizens, said an official press release published here Wednesday.

The present 102nd session of the General Conference of the ILO in Geneva, Switzerland, adopted a resolution for the move Tuesday after reviewing the country's actions for ending forced labor.

"The remaining sanctions are lifted as Myanmar carried out pragmatic measures, including legislation for elimination of forced labor in the country," said the release of Myanmar's Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security.

Myanmar delegation comprising representatives of employers and employees and led by the Deputy Labor Minister, attended the conference in Geneva.

ILO imposed sanctions on Myanmar in 1999 and 2000 but some of the sanctions were lifted during the 101st ILO General Conference in June 2012.

The ILO's 2012 lifting of most sanctions on Myanmar came on the occasion of then first leg of European tour by Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
