Stocks slide on low volume and value

Stocks continued to decline on the HCM City Stock Exchange by the end of this morning session, with 133 codes losing value while only 88 increased and 64 were unmoved.

The benchmark VN-Index gave up 0.43 per cent to close at 463.16 points on a turnover of more than VND713 billion (US$34 million), equivalent to 70 per cent of yesterday's total value.

Blue chips tumbled as over half of the 30 leading shares by market value and liquidity fell, pushing the VN30 Index down 0.27 per cent to stand at 532.16.

Sacom Development Investment Corp (SAM) temporarily led the market by trading volume this morning with over 2.2 million shares changing hands. The shares closed up 3.5 per cent at VND8,800 each.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also gained 0.45 per cent to conclude this morning at 77.46 points. Over 38 million shares were traded worth a total VND426 billion ($20.3 million).

Losers outnumbered gainers by 170-73.

There were three shares with trades in excess of 3 million shares, including Habubank (HBB), PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) and property developer Sacomreal (SCR). SCR hit the ceiling at VND15,500 ($0.74) while HBB and PVX closed unchanged.
